Karunanidhi re-elected DMK chief, Stalin elevated

Chennai: M Karunanidhi was unanimously re-elected Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president for
a record ninth time at the party's general council on June 2.
In a significant move, Karunanidhi's younger son M K Stalin, hitherto the youth wing secretary was
elevated as one of the three deputy general secretaries.
K Anbazhagan and N Veerasamy were re-elected general secretary and treasurer respectively.
Former state Minister and deputy leader of the DMK legislature party Durai Murugan was appointed
principal secretary, a newly created post.
Paruthi Illamvazuthy, MLA, and former minister Sarguna Pandian were the other deputy general
secretaries.
The party also created an action committee comprising senior leaders like Murasoli Maran, Ko Si Mani,
Veerappandi S Arumugham and Union Environment Minister T R Baalu.
