Court directs police to file FIR against minister
Monday, June 2 2003 18:48 Hrs (IST)
Jaipur: Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Singh Shaktawat on June 2 appeared to be in trouble after a
local court directed the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against him in connection with
the death of his domestic servant.
The court order comes even as the Rajasthan government announced the death of Badan Lal Rawat
whose body was found on railway track on May 22.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramesh Chandra Sharma ordered the police to register an FIR against the
minister on a complaint by Rawat's father and brother who alleged that he was murdered.
Rawat's brother Roop Lal Rawat alleged in his complaint in the court that the local police was asking the
family members to keep their mouths shut and also not to register any FIR.
He alleged that there was a hole on both sides of the head of the deceased, which might have been
caused by a bullet but the police had been maintaining that it was a case of suicide by jumping in front
of a running train.
Post-mortem on the body of Rawat was conducted twice in the wake of Opposition suspecting some foul
play in his death.
