Monday, June 2 2003 22:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit on June 2 flagged off yet another 'Yamuna Cleaning Drive,' in
a bid to inspire people to come forward and participate in cleaning up the lifeline of Delhi.
Shiela Dixit flagged off the drive near the Wazirabad Barrage. Hundreds of people participated in the
drive including school children, NGOs (Non-Government Organisation) and many other voluntary
organisations.
She said, "The drive is symbolic of how unclean the Yamuna is when we initiate the process we
associate ourselves with it. Which means people should also be associated. It is just not enough
chalking out plans, the people must feel it is their Yamuna and it is Yamuna that feeds them, gives them
water, so it is our responsibility to make it neat and clean. The drive will also inspire government officials
to come out of their slumber and work towards making Yamuna neat and clean."
The school kids participated with lots of zeal and enthusiasm. One of the voluntary participants
said, "Yamuna is our mother we worship it. We would continue this process till Yamuna becomes clean
and healthy."
