Tuesday, June 3 2003 14:06 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on June 3 said that "synergy" was the mantra behind the success of Delhi Metro and that it would be taken as a role model in other cities of the country where such prestigious projects would be taken up shortly.

Laying the foundation stone for the third line of phase one between Barakhamba Road to Dwarka, Advani said the project was an example of co-operation between the government of Japan and government of India and as well between the Centre and the Delhi government.

"So this project, which is being completed in time, is a result of synergy between everybody and this mantra will be carried on to other cities where such project will be taken up shortly," Advani, who head the group of ministers on Delhi Metro, said.

The Deputy Prime Minister, while laying the foundation stone, said, "This is not the occasion of delivering a political lecture, but express happiness", as the metro was spreading its wings into other areas of the national capital.

The dais was shared among others by Ambassador of Japan Akira Hayashi, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Governor Vijai Kapoor, DMRC chairman Madan Lal Khurana, Union Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar and Delhi Power Minister Ajay Maken among others.

On the occasion, Maken said his ministry would work on the possibility of keeping the power rates less for Delhi Metro so that its fares were minimum.

Japanese Ambassador assured of continued support and expertise for the project.
