Three policemen injured in clash in North Gujarat

Ahmedabad: At least three policemen were injured, when violent mobs from two communities resorted to
heavy stone pelting and arson in Visnagar town of Mehsana district in North Gujarat late on June 2
night, official sources said.
The trouble started after an altercation over payment of money in a roadside joint owned by a person
belonging to minority community, Mehsana police superintendent A K Pratham said.
One police inspector and two constables were injured in the incident, he said, adding the mob also set
afire a house belonging to majority community person, a shop and two vehicles.
Police had to lob teargas shells to disperse the rampaging mobs and in the process, the service
revolver of one police inspector H B Rathod was also snatched away.
However, Pratham said the situation was peaceful and under control and police was carrying out
combing operations in the area to nab the rioters.
