AP indulging in "politics of water": K'taka CM
Tuesday, June 3 2003 18:28 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore: Accusing Andhra Pradesh of playing "politics of water", Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna
on June 3 said law would take its own course on the proposed protest by TDP (Telugu Desam Party) at
the site of the state's "Paragodu" project to provide water in Kolar district.
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Krishna said law and order would be maintained and the local
authorities would deal with the situation appropriately if TDP held any rally at the site to protest against
the project.
Krishna asserted that that the project was being taken up by Karnataka to supply drinking water to 100
villages and Gudibande and Bagepalli towns.
The Ananthpur district of TDP has announced its plans to organise a demonstration at the "Paragodu"
project site on June 6, saying it was detrimental to the interests of Andhra Pradesh.
An Andhra Pradesh MPs delegation had recently made a representation to President A P J Abdul Kalam
and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee against the project, dubbing it as illegal and seeking their
intervention.
Karnataka has accused its neighbour of carrying on a "distorted and malicious campaign" against it and
in turn blamed Andhra Pradesh for taking up projects "illegally" including the Telugu Ganga.
