Lahore: The Muttahida Amal-e-Majlis (MMA) is ready to accept President Pervez Musharraf as chief of
Army staff (CAS) as well for a specified period, provided the government implements its 17-point
Islamisation package.
PML-Q chief Chaudhury Shujat Hussain has accepted the demands, though the Presidency is silent on
them, reports 'The Nation'.
The MMA is pressing the government to amend Article 2 of the Constitution to bring all laws in
conformity with the Koran and Sunnah as per recommendations of Council of Islamic Ideology and
ensure that no legislation contrary to the Sharia is carried out in future.
The package has also asked the government to remove the President's power to pardon a person
sentenced by the High Courts in Hadood cases.
Another demand is deletion of the Article 89 of the Constitution to stop legislation through ordinances,
saying, "It has made the Parliament a rubber stamp."
The Alliance also asked the government to review the Article 248 to check abuse of power. Further, in
its view, the terms and conditions for the judges of the Federal Shariat court should be similar to those
set for the judges of superior judiciary.
The recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council should be discussed in the Parliament and
amendments be made in the Constitution accordingly to ensure the supremacy of Shariat in the country,
it said, the newspaper noted.
