Tuesday, June 3 2003 14:48 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: As many as 90 women employees of a private garment factory at suburban Ambattur have been hospitalised after they inhaled toxic fumes.

Police on June 3 said the victims complained of giddiness after inhaling the toxic gas, which leaked from a neighbouring perfumes manufacturing factory on June 1.

While 30 employees were admitted on June 1, 60 others complained of nausea when they turned up for duty on June 2 morning and were rushed to the hospital.

Police said there was no fresh leak of gas and the toxic fumes lingered on the factory premises after the June 1 incident.

All those hospitalised were progressing well and would be under observation till night of June 3, police added.
