Forest brigand Veerappan's associate arrested

Chennai: Ganapathyappan, an associate of forest brigand Veerappan, wanted in connection with a
shootout in 1987 in which one forest officer was killed and two forest rangers were injured, has been
arrested, ADGP Crime Branch- CID S Ramani said on June 03.
Ganapathyappan, absconding for 16 years after the incident, was arrested in Arul taluka of Dharmapuri
on June 1, Ramani told reporters.
The ADGP said three other members of the Veerappan gang
had already been convicted in the case.
Another associate, wanted in connection with the case, had been apprehended in April 2002, he said.
The two would be tried together, he added.
