Wednesday, June 4 2003 16:14 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: The father of India's guided missile programme A P J Abdul Kalam would soon find a new territory to deliver his ideas: Cyber Space.

The scientist-President's chart-busting autobiography 'Wings of Fire' is set to wing its way into the World Wide Web as its publishers are planning to launch an electronic version of the work so that readers from across the globe can browse the book and even download it from the Internet.

"The e-version of the book is ready. We are planning to get it launched very shortly by Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy," Madhu Reddy, Director of Universities Press, the publishers of Kalam's autobiography, told reporters in Hyderabad on June 4.

Mainly targeted at NRIs and other overseas readers, the e-version of the book could be downloaded from the net at a cost of three USD.

First published in English in 1999 and subsequently translated into 13 languages, 'Wings of Fire' captures the fascinating life, trials and tribulations of the 'Missile Man'.

Co-authored by Kalam's close associate Arun Tiwari, the book follows Kalam's journey from his humble beginning in the temple street of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu to becoming the head of the country's indigenous missile development programme.

"So far, we have sold about four lakh copies of the book in all languages put together. Of this, English version alone accounts for two lakh copies and Tamil edition one lakh copies," Reddy said.
