Russia calls for constant Indo-Russian interaction
Wednesday, June 4 2003 22:14 Hrs (IST)
Moscow: Russia on June 4 called for constant Indo-Russian interaction in countering the common
threats faced by the two countries, including terrorism and illegal drug trafficking.
"The developments in the world and in the region sprawled between the Russian and Indian borders –
Afghanistan, the Middle East, Central and South Asia need permanent co-ordination of actions of the
two countries," Secretary of Russia's National Security Council Vladimir Rushailo said.
Moscow and New Delhi can boast of "absolute understanding" in the fight against international terrorism,
trans-border crime and drug trafficking, he said at a meeting with the delegation of the Indian National
Security Council in Moscow.
Rushailo said Indo-Russian security co-operation is expanding and is based on common long-term
national and geopolitical interests of the two countries.
"The recent joint Russian-Indian fleet and aviation exercises in the Indian Ocean, unprecedented in their
scale, are a vivid example of this successful co-operation," he said.
The joint-secretary level Indian delegation is in Moscow for regular expert level consultations between
the National Security Councils.
Russia and India had signed an agreement in the year 2000 on interaction between their National
Security Councils. Last year Rushailo had visited New Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart Brajesh
Mishra.
