Heat wave claims 1235 lives in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: The severe unprecedented heat wave sweeping Andhra Pradesh has so far claimed 1,235 lives even as day temperatures rose in parts of Rayalseema, coastal Andhra and Telangana regions, official sources said.

Many parts of south coastal Andhra, Rayalseema and Telangana were reeling under severe heat wave for the last three weeks, claiming 26 more lives during last 24 hours.

With no sign of let-up, the blistering heat wave will continue in many parts for the next 48 hours, according to local weather office.

Vijayawada city recorded 46 degree celsius, Tirupati 44 and Hyderabad 42.3 degree celsius.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who reviewed the situation with the top officials on June 4 night, has set up a task force to take control of the situation.
