Shilpa Shetty's father surrenders passport to police
Thursday, June 5 2003 13:29 Hrs (IST)

Surat: Surendra Shetty, father of actress Shilpa Shetty allegedly involved in a case of extortion, on June 5 surrendered his passport to Umra police station as per directives of the Gujarat High Court.

Surendra has been summoned to appear before the investigating officer on June 6 by 10.30 am (IST) in Umra police station for further probe in the matter, police said.

Surendra was given "interim liberty" by the Gujarat High Court, which directed him to surrender the passport to the investigating officer by June 5.

He arrived in Surat on June 5 morning and went directly to the Umra police station.

He is facing a charge of hiring a gangster to recover Rs 80 lakh payable to his daughter Shilpa by owner of Praful sarees Pankaj Agarwal for modelling in an ad film.

Police also claim to have in possession tape recorded telephonic conversation between Shilpa's parents threating Agarwal.

Earlier, a Surat court rejected his bail plea on the ground that there was prime facie evidence against him.
