Mumbai: Leader of opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) and senior Shiv Sena leader,
Narayan Rane, is facing threat from the underworld, police sources said on June 5.
"Mafias, especially underworld don Chhota Shakeel, could target the Opposition leader through suicide
squads comprising women," a communication from the VIP protection cell of the city police has revealed.
Accordingly, the cops providing security to Rane have been alerted.
The attack may be by a woman or group of women, the communication said adding that assailants might
utilise sharp weapons or explosives.
Rane has been provided with Z-plus security.
Special attention must be given to women, who come to meet Rane at public meetings, functions or at
his residence, the communication says.
The Opposition leader told a section of media that he was aware of the threat to his life from the
underworld, as he had taken a firm stance against them time and again.
Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh told reporters that adequate security has been provided
to Rane and "if needed we will enhance his protection".
