Kabul sends bodies of 21 'Talebans', 14 returned
Friday, June 6 2003 17:56 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad: The authorities in Kabul sent bodies of 21 people to the Killi Faizo Afghan refugee camp,
about 125 km North West of Quetta, but the Pakistan administration at Chaman promptly returned 14 of
them. Seven were received by the relatives for burial.
The incident happened on June 5. The dead were said to be Talebans killed while fighting government
troops near Kandahar in the middle of the week, according to a report in ‘The News’.
The seven were identified as officials of former Taleban regime of Afghanistan. They included
commander Abdul Rahim, commander Abdul Ghani, Talib Amir Muhammad, Gul Muhammad, Gullalai,
Noorullah and another whose name is yet to be confirmed.
The newspaper quoted eyewitnesses in Chaman as saying that the Afghan officials had sent the bodies
to Pakistan, saying they were not Afghans. But the Pakistani border authorities declined to accept them,
saying they were not Pakistanis.
