Govt has struck deal to dump set top boxes in India
Friday, June 6 2003 17:53 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Strongly opposing the proposed Conditional Access System (CAS), Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on June 6 charged the government with having struck a deal with a London-based business magnate who wants to dump set top boxes for the system in India.

"Government cannot force such a thing. The decision will cause losses to middle class and Sena will oppose this decision," Thackeray told reporters at his suburban Bandra residence 'Matoshree'.

He said the government would have to ‘pay a heavy price’ for its decision to force people to buy set top boxes.

The government has not consulted its allies before taking the decision to implement the CAS, Thackeray said.
