Release of POTA detainees a dangerous game plan: BJP
Friday, June 6 2003 14:36 Hrs (IST)
Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 6 termed the decision of the state government to set
free persons arrested under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) as "yet another onslaught on Indian
sovereignty" and said it would be "dangerous" for the security of the country.
"It is an onslaught on the Indian sovereignty that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-Congress
coalition government have decided to set free all arrested under POTA for heinous crimes ranging from
murders, anti-Indian and subversives activities in J and K," spokesman of the state BJP Hari Om told
reporters.
He also described as a "dangerous game plan" the suggestion of the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti that no
skilled labourer from other states should be allowed to work in Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision of the Mufti-led government and the suggestion of the PDP chief are "ill-designed" and are
aimed at causing irreparable damage to the civil society and vital national interests, he said.
"How can she, like the late Sheikh Abdullah demand all rights for Kashmir all over India and deny the
same rights to people of other state in Jammu and Kashmir?" he asked.
He asked the PDP chief to justify her demand that seeks to ban the entry of workers from other states
into Jammu and Kashmir and urged the Centre to accommodate as many Kashmiris as possible in the
service sector in and outside the state.
