New Delhi: Several parts of peninsular India received pre-monsoon showers even as the heat wave
conditions on June 6 abated in many parts of the country.
"Many parts of peninsular India have got pre-monsoon showers and conditions are becoming favourable
for the advance of south-west monsoon towards Kerala," Dr S K Subramanian of the Indian
Meteorological Department said.
"The south-west monsoon is likely to hit Kerala in next two-three-days," he said.
"Heat wave conditions abated in Delhi, South Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand
and parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh," Subramanian said.
The heat wave conditions, however, continued in North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana-
Vidarbha, Chattisgarh and central parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, he said.
"These areas are also likely to get respite in a day or two," he added.
In the Northeast, monsoon covered some more areas, including Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal
Pradesh and Sikkim. Besides eastern parts of Assam, the monsoon also covered west Assam. "Good
rainfall activity is continuing in Northeast India," he said.
However, no further advance of monsoon occurred since June 5 in the Arabian Sea Branch,
Subramanian said, adding peninsular India, including Kerala and parts of Karnataka and Orissa and
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal received pre-monsoon showers.
