Vajpayee has played his cards well: Thackeray
Friday, June 6 2003 14:27 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on June 6 said Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was the undisputed leader of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and he alone could bind the ruling coalition.

Describing Vajpayee as a "mild leader", Thackeray at a press conference at his residence 'Matoshree' said, "There is no one else who can attract the people of the country."

Referring to Vajpayee's remarks that Advani would lead the party to victory in the next election, causing a flutter in the political circle, the Sena Chief said, "The Prime Minister made a very nice move – call it a googly or anything. He has played his cards well."

However, on the issue of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, he said it was the party's internal matter whether to project Vajpayee or Advani as their leader.
