Fernandes pooh-pooh's Pak claim on Kashmir
Saturday, June 7 2003 22:16 Hrs (IST)

Mysore : Defence Minister George Fernandes on June 7 rejected as "not relevant" Pakistan's claim that entire Jammu and Kashmir was a disputed territory.

"What Pakistan says is not relevant", Fernandes said, when asked about Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri's statement that the whole of J and K was a "disputed territory".

Asked how soon talks with Pakistan would resume, he said it would take "some time". "One does not wish to rush through without all preparations when summit talks are held".

Queried about suggestions by some thinkers that the line of control (LoC) could be converted into a permanent border as a permanent solution to the J and K problem, he said he did not think so.

"The whole of Jammu and Kashmir including Pak occupied Kashmir was part of India", he said.
