Christians disenchanted with NCM meeting

Ahmedabad: Even as the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) on June 7 assured of
recommending "action" if Gujarat government knowingly conducts survey on Christians, the community
members termed their meeting with NCM as "unfruitful and dissatisfactory."
The resentment among the Christian community stemmed from NCM chairman Tarlochan Singh's
reported assertion during the meeting that the "Gujarat government has not carried out discreet survey
of Christian families".
"We have all the necessary documents, police records and Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit
Shah's statement made on the floor of Assembly regarding surveys being conducted.
How can the commission deny that there is no such survey by Gujarat government", Father Cedric
Prakash, who heads an NGO working for human rights, said.
"When the state Home Minister himself admits on the floor of the House that such surveys are being
conducted, who is the NCM to deny that? Why are they making such funny statements", a visibly
agitated Prakash remarked.
He alleged that it is "blatantly obvious" that the NCM is toeing the line of the saffron party.
