Riot hit areas back to normal life
Saturday, June 7 2003 14:23 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: Normalcy returned in riot-hit areas under Habeebnagar and Asifnagar police stations limits, which witnessed arson and violence on June 5 and 6.

However, prohibitory orders will continue for a day or two as a precautionary measure, additional police commissioner A K Khan told reporters.

Shops and business establishments opened on June 7 in these areas and vehicular traffic is normal, he said.

Tension gripped some areas under Nampally, Asifnagar and Habeebnagar areas following group clashes between two different communities and stone pelting near Mallepally on June 5, in which a Majlis activist was killed and few others received injuries.

Eight cases have been registered for indulging in arson and stone pelting since June 5 and nearly 40 persons were picked up in this connection, he said.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, after visiting riot-affected areas on June 6, had already ordered a judicial enquiry into the circumstances that led to group clashes and stone pelting.
