RLD vice president Rameshwar Singh quits party

Lucknow: The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), campaigning for dislodging the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, received a jolt on June 7 when its vice president Rameshwar Singh resigned from the party and floated Lok Dal (Charan Singh).

At a hurriedly called press conference, Singh said he was leaving the party in protest against its chief Ajit Singh's "autocratic style of functioning and favouritism".

He claimed that all RLD legislators were with him.

Singh said he supported the Mayawati government and claimed that it enjoyed majority.
