Jalandhar: In a fresh eruption of caste clashes, five persons were injured on June 8 in Talhan village
even as curfew remained in force there and in adjoining areas, while it was lifted from some parts of
Jalandhar city following easing of tension.
Carrying batons, stones and sharp edged weapons, Jat Sikhs and Dalits clashed on June 7 in Talhan
village from where violence had erupted on June 5 night, police said. Five persons were injured in the
clash, they said.
Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Gupta, however, described the situation as "under control".
In Jalandhar, curfew was lifted from some parts following easing of tension.
"As I feel now that situation in the area of Civil Hospital to Jyoti Chowk to Nakodar Chowk has become
normal, curfew from the area is being lifted with immediate effect," Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar
Gupta said. However, curfew would continue in other areas of the city, he said.
Gupta said he had delegated power to sub-divisional magistrates on duty in the affected areas to give
relaxation in curfew if they found the situation suitable.
