Bangarappa acquitted in dental college scam
Monday, June 9 2003 16:30 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: More than seven years after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case, a designated court on June 9 acquitted former Chief Minister and a Congress "strongman" of Karnataka S Bangarappa and five others in the alleged PC Dental College scandal.

Acquitting them designated CBI court Judge S V Patil, said the prosecution had failed to prove the offences charged against the accused in the case beyond all reasonable doubt and suspicion.

Bangarappa and five others including the then Health Minister G Puttaswamy Gowda had been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with government sanction for affiliation of PC Dental and Nursing College with Bangalore University and for regularising admissions in it in contravention of Karnataka State University Act 1976 during 1991-93.
