Srinagar: Six militants, including a top Harkat-ul-Mujahideen ultra, and two security personnel were among 10 persons killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where an infiltration bid was foiled along the line of control (LoC), officials said on June 9.

Army personnel shot dead five Pakistani militants, who had crossed the border and entered Dera Mangali Sahib forest along the line of control in Poonch district on June 9 morning.

The security personnel, on a tip off, confronted the militants at around 7.00 am (IST) and three of them were killed in an exchange of fire.

As their accomplices tried to flee, Army personnel gave them a chase and shot dead two more militants, the officials said. Five AK rifles, 17 magazines, 230 rounds, two pistols, 19 grenades and some explosives were recovered from them.

Rashtriya Rifles personnel shot dead a self-styled district commander of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Tahir Mehmood, in an encounter in Sokhpur village of Kupwara district. Some arms and ammunition, including two hand grenades and six rifle grenades, were recovered from the militant, a Pakistan national.
