Musharraf not to quit Army Chief's post
Monday, June 9 2003 10:00 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf rejected the Opposition demand to quit as Chief of Army stating that it was essential for him to continue in both the posts in the best national interests and criticised the Islamist alliance Muthahida Majlis Amal (MMA) for attempting to bring Taleban style Islamic laws in the country.

Addressing a gathering of lawyers in Lahore on June 8, Musharraf said that like the Opposition he too believed that one person should not hold the offices of Presidency and Chief of Army but he wanted time to quit the post of Chief of Army as circumstances warranted his continuation.
