Terrorism, Hawk deal to figure in Advani's UK trip

London: A gamut of issues including international and cross-border terrorism, long-pending Hawk deal
and prospects of India deploying its troops in Iraq will figure during the talks Deputy Prime Minister L K
Advani will have with British leaders including the Prime Minister Tony Blair from June 15.
Besides Blair, Advani will have separate discussions with his host Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott,
Home Secretary David Blunkett, and Foreign Secretary Jack Straw during his 4-day visit.
Though no detailed itinerary has been decided, one of the issues that will certainly come up during the
talks with Home Secretary is Britain's arms sales to Pakistan, a home ministry spokesperson has said.
Advani, who will reach here after his week-long visit to the US, will apprise the British leaders about
India's fresh peace initiative with Pakistan and the need to end the terrorists' traffic from across the
border before the two countries could resume a dialogue.
The Deputy Prime Minister will emphasise that the fight against terrorism would have to be worldwide
and no country should be spared for aiding terrorism.
Britain is expected to raise the question of deploying Indian troops for Iraq, where the US-led alliance
troops are getting bogged down in an increasingly hostile situation.
The visit assumes significance as it comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's
talks with US President George W Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Russian President Vladimir
Putin and French President Jacques Chirac in St. Petersburg last week.
