Two abducted Guj businessmen freed by police
Tuesday, June 10 2003 17:38 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Two city-based Gujarati businessmen abducted by a six-member gang, been freed from their captivity by city police.

Police sources said the six gang members masquerading as crime branch sleuths came to their computer shop on Residency road on June 9 afternoon and, on "charges of selling fake goods", whisked them away by informing them that they are being taken to a police station for interrogation.

The gang then lodged them in a house and demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh. When the brothers told them that they are only "small businessmen", the gang asked them to call their shop with a message to give whatever money was available to two messengers, who duly later collected Rs 35,000 from there.

Police who came to know of the kidnapping on June 9 laid a trap. When two of the gang members again turned up on June 10 to collect some more money, they were detained. Based on information they gave, police reached the businessmen and their remaining abductors, sources said.
