Panaji: The world famous beaches of Goa are in a sorry state nowadays. Droves of tourists return disappointed, as the beaches are not kept clean.

"This is one of the best beaches in Goa and we had heard a lot about it. We were very keen to visit it, but after coming here and seeing the pollution, we don't think it's the best place," Masood Ahmed, a domestic tourist, said.

The beaches are littered with used plastic bottles, packets, weeds and dead sea creatures, which turn the place into a tourist's nightmare. Praveen, another visitor, said very soon tourists' flow would stop if the beaches continued to remain neglected.

"We can see a lot of pollution everywhere. Authorities are not keeping the beaches clean. If nothing is done to solve the problem, then naturally it would be unhealthy for tourists to come here and take a swim," said Praveen.

Goa is one of India's most famous tourist destinations.
