Karachi: Pakistani police seized a huge cache of explosives from the premises of a terrorist, who was
severely wounded in a blast while attempting to blow up the main entrance gate of a recreation park in
this city.
Mohammad Riaz, 26, had been injured, when the bomb he had been carrying had gone off, the police
said. They found two more bombs near the site of the blast.
During the investigation, Riaz reportedly revealed that he belonged to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an outlawed
Sunni Muslim militant organisation, and had also participated in 'jihad' in neighbouring Afghanistan a
couple of months ago.
According to his version, he was going to place three timer devices on the main gate of the park. After
placing two, he was about to fix the third when it exploded in his hand.
Huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives including detonators, transmitters, timer switches and
explosive material, intended to be used for terrorist attacks, was recovered from his premises.
"We received an information regarding this terrorist named Riaz, who lost his hand during a blast
outside Alladin Park. After that we raided his house and recovered huge amount of explosives," said
police official Mohammad Ashraf Gujar on June 10.
This incident follows the blast that killed 11 police recruits in an ambush. At least 18 members of the
banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan were suspected of carrying out the attack.
