Lucknow: Voicing concern over impartiality of the police probe into the murder of poetess Madhumita
Shukla, her sister on June 11 claimed that Madhumita was "not pregnant" and the foetus sent for DNA
test was "fabricated".
Stating the theory that Madhumita was pregnant at the time of her death was "far from truth", Nidhi
Shukla, the poetess' sister, said the foetus sent to Hyderabad institute for a DNA test was
also "fabricated".
"Had she been five months pregnant as is being claimed by the police, the family members would have
known about it," she told reporters.
She said, in order to verify this fact, the video cassettes of the poetess taking part in a 'kavi sammelan'
in April could also be checked.
Nidhi, who had earlier created a storm by blaming the wife of former state Minister Amarmani Tripathi for
the murder of Madhumita and had subsequently retracted her statement by giving a clean chit to the
minister's family, on June 11 denied that she had ever given a clean chit to anyone in the case.
Expressing doubts over the impartiality of the Crime Branch (CB)-Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) inquiring into her sister's murder, she demanded proper questioning of all those found linked with
the poetess, irrespective of their political affiliations.
When the family members of Madhumita are being questioned, all the rest connected with the case
should also be interrogated by the CB-CID, she said.
She alleged that the agency inquiring into the murder was destroying evidences in the case to save the
guilty.
To a question whether Tripathi should also be interrogated, Nidhi reiterated that all those found linked
with the case should be questioned.
She also expressed fears that the guilty might go "scot free", saying, "With only six days left to complete
the inquiry, the CB-CID is merely doing a formality now."
Chief Minister Mayawati while ordering a CB-CID inquiry into the murder of Madhumita Shukla in
Lucknow in May had set a month's time-frame to complete the probe.
