Jharkhand Bandh: MCC ultras blast railway station
Wednesday, June 11 2003 18:04 Hrs (IST)
Ranchi: The Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) ultras blasted a railway station in Hazaribag and set afire
an electric engine of a goods train in Latehar district on June 10, to mark their two-day Jharkhand
Bandh, which began on June 10, in protest against alleged police atrocities and operations against them.
Additional Director General of Police J B Mohapatra told reporters that the banned ultras bombed the
tracks at Harubeda railway station in Hazaribag, bordering Palamu district, and then set on fire the east
cabin of the station.
He said in another incident the extremists set on fire an electric engine of a goods train at Bendi in
Latehar district.
A separate group of extremists reached Dhania railway station in Bokaro district and thrashed the
station master and sent him out before locking up his chamber and putting blocks on the rail tracks.
Mohapatra said most of the trains were running late and important trains were being escorted out of the
state.
Life in most of the cities remained largely unaffected with traffic movement being normal on June 11, the
last day of the 48-hour bandh, sources said.
However, long distance buses are not plying since June 10, they said.
