Thursday, June 12 2003 17:47 Hrs (IST)
Patna: Arrested chief of Naxalite outfit People's War Group (PWG) in Bihar, Arvind on June 12 said his
arrest would have no bearing on the PWG and expressed no remorse for his involvement in over 25
cases of violence, including killing of policemen and feudal lords.
Interviewed at Kotwali police station where he was being held after his arrest late on June 11 night,
Arvind alias Dev Kumar Singh admitted his involvement in killing of eight Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF) jawans by triggering a landmine blast in Mausaurhi sub-division of rural Patna in 1999.
He also admitted killing of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and five policemen at Dhanarua in
2001, besides blasting the Nadaul railway station and looting of 17 rifles after killing a hawaldar of Bara
police picket under Naubatpur police station. All the incidents took place in Patna district.
Claiming that PWG had no rivalry with any political party and its fight was aimed at "bringing change in
the system", Arvind said he took up the arms to fight "social injustice and police brutality against the
have-nots".
He said his arrest would not impact the PWG, as new leaders would emerge to "continue the battle for
social change".
Superintendent of police, Special Task Force (STF) Vinay Kumar Singh said officials from STF,
Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) interrogated Arvind intensively, but
refused to give details.
A STF team led by DSP Dilnawaz Ahmed arrested Arvind, who carried a reward of Rs three lakh on his
head, and three others from a house from the Peoples' Co-operative Colony in Kankarbagh in Patna
late on June 11 night.
