Friday, June 13 2003 01:28 Hrs (IST)

Chicago: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has assured Non-Resident Indians (NRI) that Bill granting dual citizenship would become a law before the end of the year.

He told a meeting of the Indian community in Chicago on June 12 that he had introduced the Bill recently and it has gone to the standing committee of Parliament, which is expected to give its comment in two or three months.

After that, he said, he is sure both Houses of Parliament would adopt the measure.

His announcement was greeted with thunderous applause from more than one thousand Indian Americans attending the dinner meeting.
