Militants kill 5 in JK, 2 ultras also gunned down

Srinagar: Militants gunned down five persons, including two women, in separate incidents in Jammu and
Kashmir where security forces killed two militants, including a Pakistani mercenary, and recovered 33
kgs of RDX since June 12 night, a police spokesman said.
In a gruesome incident, unidentified militants shot dead three persons, including two women, and
wounded another at Nadoora in border district of Kupwara early on June 13, the spokesman said.
He said militants entered the house of one Ali Mohammad Mir, whom they suspected to be an informer
of security forces, and fired indiscriminately on the inmates killing his wife, mother and a guest. Mir was
seriously injured in the attack and was hospitalised.
In another incident, ultras killed two persons at Bajmasta-Panhall in Ramban area of Doda district.
Meanwhile, pro-Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen on June 13 claimed responsibility for the June 12 land-
mine explosion in Kokernag area of Anantnag district, which killed two Army jawans and wounded five
others.
A caller introducing himself as spokesman of the outfit said the blast was a "joint action" carried out by
its activists and those belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
Security forces on June 13 smashed a hideout at Lamber-Pathri in Banihal area of Doda district and
recovered 33 kgs of deadly RDX and five grenades, the police spokesman said.
A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant identified as Abu Adil, a resident of Bahawalpur in Pakistan, was killed
in a gunfight, which broke out during a joint raid conducted by Rashtriya Rifles and police on a militant
hideout at Wanidurous forest in Lolab early on June 13, the spokesman said.
He said two civilians were also injured in the encounter, which lasted several hours. An AK assault rifle,
three magazines, 36 rounds and a wireless set were recovered from the slain militant.
In another encounter, troops of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry killed a Hizbul Mujahideen militant
during search operations at Kandi in Kupwara on June 12 night.
An AK assault rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds and five hand grenades were recovered from the slain
militant, the spokesman said, adding Gujjar was wanted in a large number of militancy-related incidents
in the border district.
Meanwhile, an old woman was killed when she accidentally slipped and fell down a hill at village Tad in
Karnah sector of Kupwara on June 12 evening, official sources said.
