Allahabad: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on June 14 asked Sangh Parivar to specify whether it would abide by a judicial verdict on Ayodhya issue, even as it backed Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's call to political parties to keep away from the matter to help resolve it.

AIMPLB vice president Maulana Kalbe Sadiq accused the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of "politicising" excavation at the disputed site in Ayodhya by linking the findings with a particular religion.

Sadiq lashed out at the Sangh Parivar outfits for their "ambivalence" on whether they would abide by the judicial decision on the issue and said, "They may or may not abide by the court verdict, but the AIMPLB will accept whatever verdict is passed on the issue. We have faith in the judicial process."

He told reporters that any attempt to construct Ram temple at Ayodhya by force would not be allowed.

Stating that politicisation of the Ayodhya dispute has been the "main reason" for the continued stalemate on the issue, Sadiq said, "Only when politicians are kept out of the matter, can it be resolved either through dialogue between religious leaders of the two communities or the judicial process.

"The Prime Minister has rightly opposed political interference in the dialogue process on the issue, as the involvement of political parties and politicians will only linger it instead of resolving it," he said.

Asked whether the Muslim community would consider handing over of the disputed land to Hindus in the larger interest of communal amity in the country, Sadiq said, "No individual Muslim or any organisation is authorised to take a decision in this regard."

Lashing out at the ASI, he said, "Attempts to politicise will not help in any way in resolving the issue.

"The committee on Babri Masjid will extend support to the excavation, as long as it believes that the digging work is aimed at finding out historical evidence about any religious structure, but it would be opposed if it gets politicised," Sadiq said.

He denied signing any document brought to him by Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati with regard to the Ayodhya issue, saying no proposal had been sent to him.

"I have not discussed with the Shankaracharya any proposal for resolving the Ayodhya issue and hence the question of having signed any document does not arise," he said.

"He is a respected Hindu seer and his sincere efforts to initiate dialogue with the Muslim religious leaders must be appreciated by all," he added.
