Saturday, June 14 2003 14:19 Hrs (IST)
Jammu: Trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir with separate states for Sikhs and Gujjars and a homeland
for Kashmiri pandits figured prominently during meetings the Centre's pointman on Kashmir N N Vohra
had with a
cross-section of political and socio-religious groups during his weeklong visit.
A number of delegations and prominent personalities also raised the issue of discrimination with regard
to Jammu by successive state governments, officials said on June 14.
Twenty-nine smaller organisations raised the demand for carving out separate Jammu, Sikh and Gujjar
states and a homeland for Kashmiri pandits, they said.
During their talks with Vohra, who was on his second visit to Jammu since becoming the Centre's
interlocutor, Jammu State Morcha (JSM), Jammu Mukti Morcha, Jammu Adhikar Morcha, Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and Jammu Justice Movement demanded a
separate state for Jammu and Union Territory (UT) status for Ladakh.
"We want Jammu should be delinked from Kashmir and UT status given to Ladakh," MLA and JSM
leader Ashwani Kuma said.
