Ivanov to discuss India-Russia-China trilateral ties
Sunday, June 15 2003 05:49 Hrs (IST)

Moscow: Trilateral India-Russia-China cooperation would figure prominently among a range of bilateral and international issues Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov would discuss with his Indian counterpart in New Delhi on June 16.

Ivanov is reaching New Delhi tonight (June 15) after one-day working visit of Islamabad, the first by a Russian foreign minister in 10 years.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov, attention would be paid at the development of India-Russia-China dialogue during Ivanov's parleys in New Delhi.

"The Russia-India-China interaction is based on significant proximity of our stands on acute issues on modern life and is a good foundation for the continuation of the dialogue and leading to a higher level," Loryukov told reporters before the Russian foreign minister left on Asia tour.

He reminded that the foreign ministers of the three countries had met in New York last year and trilateral dialogue is underway at the level of experts and diplomats.

Russia hails the dynamism in Sino-Indian relations and Prime Minister Vajpayee's forthcoming China visit later this month.

In Delhi, Ivanov would be meeting his Indian counterpart Yashwant Sinha for the third time within last five months.

Earlier this year, External Affairs Minister Sinha had visited Moscow in February and May.

In the changed global scenario President Putin and Prime Minister Vajpayee have agreed for constant contact between the two countries at various levels,

The Indo-Russian security cooperation in combating international terrorism, religious extremism and drug trafficking would not be the only major issue to be discussed in New Delhi on which both the nations have 'full congruence' including on its sources.

Losyukov said that Iraq would be another issue to be discussed by Ivanov in New Delhi on which "we have full congruence".
