Sunday, June 15 2003 13:22 Hrs (IST)

Sasaram: Activists of the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) blew up a newly-constructed police station in Bihar's naxalite-affected Rohtas district on June 14 night, police said on June 15.

Over 50 armed MCC activists gheraoed Tillothu police station, and blasted it by triggering a dynamite, the police said.

Five rooms of the police station were damaged in the explosion but there was no report of loss of human lives or loot of police weapons, they said.

The ultras had taken hostage three electricians who were working in the newly constructed building and released them later on.

On getting information, superintendent of police R P Yadav and other senior police officials reached the spot with additional police force but by that time the extremists had fled.

Electric wire, six used cartridges of SLR rifle and pamphlets of the MCC were recovered from the scene, the police said adding a massive combing operation has been launched to nab the MCC extremists.

The MCC had twice blown Nauhatta police station of the district in the past. Recently they had blasted the office and guesthouse of forest range office at Rehla in the district.
