CBI to grill Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi
Monday, June 16 2003 22:15 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will question Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi on June
17 in a case in which he alleged that Intelligence Bureau had launched a special operation to tarnish his
image under operation "Black Sea".
A team led by Deputy Inspector General of the CBI Harbans Singh would leave for Raipur to question
Jogi, highly placed CBI sources said.
The CBI received a communication from the Chattisgarh government last week following which a team
was immediately formed to quiz Jogi after a categorical denial by the Intelligence Bureau of his charge
that the agency was engaged in tarnishing his image.
The team is likely to ask Jogi to reveal the name of the source of a letter on which he had based his
complaints.
Asked whether it was mandatory for the Chief Minister to reveal the source of the letter, they said it was
necessary for him to reveal, as it would only help to unravel the case.
Earlier, the state director information had sought some clarifications like who were the accused named in
the case and under what sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) it was registered.
CBI had in May shot off a letter to Jogi asking him to make it convenient for its sleuths to question him in
connection with the allegations levelled by him against IB. It stated that his co-operation was necessary
to reach to the bottom of the case.
