18 miners trapped in coal mine mishap in Andhra

Hyderabad: Eighteen miners were trapped inside an underground coal mine following sudden gush of water at Godavarikhani coal field in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on June 16.

"We have information that 18 miners are trapped inside. The rescue operations are on," the Karimnagar district superintendent of police R S Praveen Kumar told reporters over phone adding that the water suddenly gushed from a coal seam trapping the miners.

The LEP (Life Extension Project) mine is situated at about 70 Kms from the district headquarter town of Karimnagar.
