Madras HC orders interim stay in uniform scam

Chennai: The Madras High court on June 16 stayed further proceedings in the multi-crore scam,
pertaining to distribution of free school uniform, dhotis and saris to the economically backward sections
of Tamil Nadu during All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo Jayalalithaa's
Chief Ministership between 1991 and 1996.
The interim stay, valid till June 30, was granted by Justice P Satyasivam on an appeal filed by the Crime
Branch Central Intelligence Department (CB-CID) of the state police, to set aside the Special Court's
rejection of a petition to recall some witnesses to the stand in the case.
The judge posted the petition for hearing on the same day,
Former Social Welfare Minister Indira Kumari, her personal assistant Venkatakbishnan and four others,
including two suppliers, are arraigned as accused in the case.
