Kanchi Seer's proposal yet to reach us: AIMPLB
Wednesday, June 18 2003 07:28 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: The much-awaited proposal of the Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswati to resolve the Ayodhya tangle was yet to reach the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).

"The Shankaracharya's formula to resolve the Ayodhya deadlock has not yet reached us. We are eagerly awaiting the same," AIMPLB spokesman and noted Islamic scholar Maulana Sabjad Nomani told reporters in Lucknow on June 18.

Board vice-president Maulana Kalbe Sadiq had on June 17 said that the Kanchi seer's formula had been couriered to the Board on June 14 and could reach them in a day or two.

Nomani said that once they received the Shankaracharya's proposal it would be referred to the Board's working committee, which would take a suitable decision on it.

Reacting sharply to the board member and Babri Masjid Action Committee convenor Zafaryab Jilan's statement that the Seer's formula would be of little help if it talked about constructing a temple at the disputed site since according to the Islamic tenets the land of the mosque could not be used for any other purposes, he said that it would be premature to make any comment till the Seer's proposal was received.
