Raid in Agra against spurious bottled water plants

New Delhi: In a drive against spurious bottled drinking water manufacturers, Bureau of Indian Standards
(BIS) on June 18 seized large quantities of the product from three factories in Agra.
Pouches, bottles and 20-litre jars filled with spurious drinking water were seized from Gyan Food
Industries (Sikandra), K M P Beverages, Balajipuram and M R Food Beverages, selling water under the
brand names of "Delta Pure", "Sheetal" and "Aqua Pure" respectively, a BIS spokesperson said.
Action is being initiated against all the three firms and their owners under the BIS Act, 1986. The offence
is punishable by imprisonment upto one year or a fine upto Rs 50,000 or both.
He said huge quantities of raw materials, including pouch films used for packing, were also seized from
the factories. The raids are part of a nationwide exercise against spurious use of ISI Mark on various
products by the manufacturers, he added.
