Former minister expelled from Congress in Arunachal
Thursday, June 19 2003 13:38 Hrs (IST)
Itanagar: Close on the heels of the expulsion of a Cabinet Minister from the Congress ministry in
Arunachal Pradesh, former Minister and Congress MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) L Wanglat
was expelled on June 18 night from the primary membership of the party for six years for alleged anti
party activities.
A party press release on June 19 said the decision was taken by the Arunachal Pradesh Congress
Committee (APCC) president Mukut Mithi, who is also the Chief Minister, as Wanglat has been indulging
in anti-party activities publicly and tarnishing the image of the Congress party in nexus with other
political parties.
Wanglat, who hails from insurgency ridden Tirap district, was arrested recently under Arunachal
Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (APCOCA) for his alleged nexus with NSCN ultras, but
released on bail.
Wanglat along with fellow legislator Lijum Ronya had demanded the ouster of Mukut Mithi at a joint press
conference on June 16.
Lijum Ronya, who was the Horticulture Minister, was also sacked from the three and half year old Mithi
Ministry for his anti-party activities in May 21.
