'VHP to boycott leaders opposed to Ram temple'

Lucknow: Accusing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of selling out Hindu interests to
some Muslim organisations in the name of resolving the Ayodhya tangle, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) on June 19 warned that in the next Lok Sabha elections it would boycott leaders who opposed
construction of Ram temple.
"It is a warning to leaders that they either favour construction of Ram temple, or the VHP would ensure
they do not win parliament elections in future," VHP international president Ashok Singhal told reporters.
He said those leaders who are in favour of a temple should come out of NDA umbrella and help VHP in
its construction.
"The NDA government is pursuing a policy of Muslim appeasement in the name of secularism. It is even
contemplating giving nine per cent reservation to Muslims, which the VHP will oppose tooth and nail," he
said.
Asked if Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was not his "soul mate" and like himself working on the
direction of Sangh Parivar, he replied, "The day Vajpayee opposed construction of Ram temple, he
ceased to be my friend."
