Bangkok: Pakistan on June 22 assured Japan that it will not have any weapons dealings with North
Korea - either nuclear or conventional.
Islamabad's assurance came during a meeting Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri had
with his Japanese counterpart Yoriko Kawaguchi on the sidelines of the second Asia Co-operation
Dialogue (ACD) meet in Northern city of Chiang Mai, Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hatsuhisa
Takashima said.
Kasuri assured Kawaguchi that Islamabad has made a policy decision not to have weapons dealings
with North Korea including transfer of nuclear technology and conventional weapons.
He said it is the first time Pakistan had agreed to extend the weapons trading ban to conventional arms.
Pakistan has denied charges made by the US that it shared with North Korea technological know-how to
make weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in exchange for missiles.
Kawaguchi expressed happiness with Pakistan's decision not to have "any sort of deal with North Korea
which would endanger the security of Japan", the spokesman said.
