Srinagar: In a major breakthrough, security forces have busted a communication network of militants in
Jammu and Kashmir, by seizing an advanced US-made equipment, a defence spokesman said.
The equipment, used by militant groups for communicating outside the country as well as other districts
of J and K, was seized by the troops of 24 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in a joint operation with Special
Operations Group of local police at Nagin area of Srinagar on June 22 night, he said.
The spokesman said the communication network, set up behind a false wall in a house, was located
following a tip-off by a civilian.
Referring to the features of the US-made equipment, he said such an advance communication system
was not available commercially.
The equipment has frequency range of 3-30 MHZ and uses an inscription system for coding and
decoding messages, the spokesman said.
It has a range of 250 kilometres and can operate from a vehicle or a fixed station, he said.
Besides the communication system, an AK-56 rifle with three magazines and 100 rounds, one under-
barrel grenade launcher, three cells and small radio sets were also found in the house, the spokesman
added.
