Srinagar: Five people, including three members of a family, were killed and eight others injured in
militant attacks while a major tragedy was averted with timely detection of a powerful improvised
explosive device (IED) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir since June 22 night, official sources
said on June 23.
Militants barged into the house of one Abdul Ahad Dar at Sogam and fired indiscriminately on the
inmates, killing Dar and his son Abdul Rashid and critically injuring four other people on June 22 night,
the sources said.
Dar's daughter, who was critically injured in the attack, died in hospital.
The sources said the ultras were looking for one of Dar's sons, Abdul Majid, an Armyman who was away
on duty.
In a separate incident, two civilians identified as Ghulam Hassan Chopan and Mohammad Yousuf Peer
were killed and three others injured when they were caught in a crossfire between militants and jawans
at Gagal Forest in Kupwara on June 23.
The injured, one of whom is a woman and another a child, have been shifted to hospital where their
condition is stated to be serious, the sources said.
In another incident, unidentified militants shot at and critically injured two persons in their house at
Keegam, they said.
The sources said a powerful IED was detected by security forces at Arampora village on June 23. It was
